Construction Program

Students doing construction projects

The College Hill Construction Program began in the fall of 2021. It serves students from Corvallis High School and Crescent Valley High School. The junior and senior cohorts each serve 15 students, for a total of 30 students in this program.

The construction program is a two-year program for students starting in the 11th grade that focuses on hands-on learning, combining real-life construction skills with core academic learning. Students finish the program with an understanding of and actual skills in woodworking, welding, automotive, drafting, construction, and more.

The small cohort sizes make the class feel like a team and allow for more collaborative work with staff and students. Students learn basic skills in their junior year and then hone and expand those skills through their senior year. The capstone project for the senior cohort is constructing two micro-shelters that will be used as temporary shelters for some of Corvallis’ unhoused population.

Students from CHS and CV may join the Construction Program through an application and interview process initiated by their high school counselor. Students who are selected will then be dual enrolled in their home high school and the College Hill Construction Program.

The high schoolers who benefit the most from this program are those who come every day on time, ready to work safely and responsibly and give their best effort.
