School Board Adopts Elementary English Language Arts Curriculum

On May 17, 2018, the Corvallis School Board adopted a new English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum, Collaborative Literacy by Center for Collaborative Classroom. This curriculum will replace the current (K-5) ELA curriculum materials from Houghton Mifflin that were adopted in 2007. All educators are required to teach to the same set of standards established by the Oregon Department of Education.

This adoption is for the six non-dual language immersion (DLI) elementary schools. We continue to look at best practices and curriculum for our two DLI schools. In 2014, we purchased some English Language Arts/Spanish Language Arts curriculum materials for those schools.

Teaching our elementary students to read and write, develop lifelong habits that ensure the
love of reading, and giving our students the ability to communicate effectively are critically
important components.
