The Corvallis School District will host a Sustainability Summit for families, staff, and the Corvallis community on Wednesday, February 13, from 6 to 8 pm at the Western View Center, 1435 SW 35th Street (just north of the main administration building). Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome.
The meeting will feature a brief presentation of the district’s activities and planning for 2019 and beyond and will include an opportunity to provide input and ideas about the draft version of the district’s sustainability plan.
This will be an informative and interactive session to help shape the future of sustainability in Corvallis schools.
District leaders have been working with Brendle Group since last September to develop an actionable and sustainable plan with goals and strategies in four main topic areas: Energy and Water, Facilities, Food and Waste, and Transportation. Assistant Superintendent Kevin Bogatin is leading this effort. “We are now in the third phase of our work with Brendle Group,” said Bogatin. “Our goal with the Sustainability Summit is to identify prioritized strategies that will result in measurable actions that will help finalize a draft plan as the district works to systematically advance sustainability throughout our district.”
Phase 1 and 2 have already been completed. In Phase 1, Brendle Group and district staff worked collaboratively to examine existing sustainability goals and policies, examined community-wide efforts, and conducted a survey among key staff to collect information about current sustainability efforts. Phase 2 involved the development of an outline for the Sustainability Plan.
The Sustainability Summit will allow the district to build on the outline and goals established in Phase 2. The Sustainability Summit will help the district in refining strategies that align with key stakeholders including staff, families, and the community-at-large, which will be critical to successful implementation. A final draft of the plan is expected to be completed in March 2019.
