Changes to Corvallis School District COVID-19 Guidance

Yesterday, the Oregon Department of Education released revised COVID-19 guidance that will take effect March 12, 2022. The revised guidance includes changes to requirements around:

• Contact tracing and case investigation 
• Isolation and quarantine
• Mask use
• Screening and testing

In alignment with guidance from OHA and ODE, beginning on March 12, Corvallis School District will no longer require masks to be worn in district buildings. Individuals may choose to continue to wear a mask. The district is supportive of individual choice when it comes to masking.

Masks will still be required through March 11, 2022

Updated CSD COVID-19 Guidance – Effective March 12, 2022

Mask Use

Indoor universal masking will no longer be required in district buildings or on school buses. Students and staff are encouraged to wear masks based on their individual risk assessment. The district is supportive of individual choice when it comes to masking. 

Masks will still be required through March 11, 2022

Physical Distancing

The district will continue to encourage physical distancing as much as possible to reduce close contact with individuals who are positive for COVID-19. This means:

• 3 feet between students
• 6 feet between students and adults 

Daily Symptom Screening

Families will no longer do daily health screenings via the CrisisGo/iPass system.

Stay Home When Sick

CSD will require students and staff members to stay home if they are experiencing primary COVID symptoms.

• Cough
• A temperature of 100.4 F or higher
• Chills
• Shortness of breath
• Difficulty breathing
• A new loss of taste or smell

If a student has non-primary symptoms that persist for more than one day, families should consider evaluation by a healthcare provider. Non-primary COVID-19 symptoms include:

• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• Sore throat
• Nasal congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea

Isolation and Quarantine

• If a student has tested positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, they cannot attend school or school activities for at least 5 days.
• Individuals who had close contact with someone who has COVID-19 will NOT be required to quarantine regardless of vaccination status or masking. 
• Families will be notified of a positive COVID-19 individual in their classroom/building.

Students who are positive for COVID-19 may return after 5 full days if they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and other symptoms have improved.

Families should continue to report any COVID-19 positives to the nursing department at 971-301-4393.

Testing

• CSD will continue to provide BinaxNow Rapid Testing to test symptomatic and exposed students. 
• Students who have been exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual will also be offered at-home test kits.

Cleaning and Disinfection

• Custodial staff will continue to clean restrooms and surfaces daily. 
• Health and Safety stations with cleaning supplies will remain throughout the buildings.

Ventilation

To maintain ventilation in our buildings, we will continue to:

• Introduce fresh outside air
• Move air from indoors to outdoors
• Clean the air that is recirculated indoors with effective filtration methods 

On school buses, we will open windows when it does not create a safety hazard in order to improve ventilation.

Handwashing

CSD will continue to:

• Prioritize handwashing after students or staff use the restroom.
• Prioritize handwashing before and after eating. 
• Prioritize handwashing after sneezing and coughing.

Moving Forward

We recognize this is a sudden change in how our schools have been operating, and this change will be met with differing responses. These past two years have been full of emotions as we have all been affected by this pandemic differently. The district will continue to support the needs of our families, students, and staff during this transition. Our first priority remains ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of our students and staff.

Cambios en la guía COVID-19 del Distrito Escolar de Corvallis

Ayer, el Departamento de Educación de Oregon publicó la guía COVID-19 actualizada que entrará en efecto el 12 de marzo del 2022. La guía actualizada incluye cambios en los requisitos en torno a:

• Rastreo de contactos e investigación de casos 
• Aislamiento y cuarentena
• Uso de mascarillas
• Detección y pruebas

De acuerdo con la orientación de OHA y ODE, a partir del 12 de marzo, el Distrito Escolar de Corvallis ya no requerirá el uso de mascarillas en las instalaciones del distrito. Las personas pueden optar por continuar usando una mascarilla. El distrito apoya la elección individual cuando se trata de usarlas.

Uso de mascarillas

Ya no se requerirá el uso universal de mascarillas en interiores en las instalaciones del distrito o en los autobuses escolares. Distanciamiento físico

El distrito continuará apoyando el distanciamiento físico tanto como sea posible para evitar el contacto cercano con personas que sean positivas a COVID-19. Esto significa:

• 3 pies de distancia ( 1 metro) entre estudiantes
• 6 pies de distancia (2 metros) entre estudiantes y adultos 

Evaluación diaria de síntomas

Las familias ya no necesitarán responder preguntas diarias de evaluación de salud a través del sistema CrisisGo/iPass.

Quédese en casa cuando esté enfermo

El Distrito Escolar de Corvallis requerirá que los miembros del personal y los estudiantes se queden en casa si están experimentando síntomas primarios de COVID.

• Tos
• Temperatura de 100.4 F (38 C) o más alta
• Escalofrios
• Falta de aliento
• Dificultad al respirar
• Nueva pérdida del gusto y olfato

Si un estudiante tiene síntomas no primarios que persisten durante más de un día, las familias deben considerar la evaluación por parte de un proveedor de atención médica. Los síntomas no primarios de COVID-19 incluyen:

• Fatiga
• Dolores musculares o corporales
• Dolor de cabeza
• Dolor de garganta
• Congestión nasal o secreción nasal
• Náuseas o vómitos
• Diarrea

Aislamiento y cuarentena

• Si un estudiante ha dado positivo a COVID-19, independientemente del estado de vacunación, no puede asistir a la escuela ni a las actividades escolares durante al menos cinco días.
• Las personas que tuvieron contacto cercano con alguien que tiene COVID-19 NO deberán ponerse en cuarentena, independientemente del estado de vacunación o el uso de mascarillas.
• Las familias serán notificadas de casos positivos a COVID-19 en su salón de clases/edificio

Los estudiantes que den positivo a COVID-19 pueden regresar después de 5 días completos si no tienen fiebre durante 24 horas sin el uso de medicamentos para reducir la fiebre y otros síntomas han mejorado.

Las familias deben continuar reportando cualquier resultado positivo a COVID-19 al departamento de enfermería al 971-301-4393.

Pruebas

• El Distrito Escolar de Corvallis continuará brindando pruebas rápidas BinaxNow para evaluar a los estudiantes sintomáticos y expuestos.
• A los estudiantes que hayan estado expuestos a una persona positiva a COVID-19 también se les ofrecerán kits de prueba para uso en el hogar.

Limpieza y desinfección

• El personal de limpieza continuará limpiando los baños y las superficies a diario.
• Las estaciones de salud y seguridad con suministros de limpieza permanecerán en todos los edificios.

Ventilación

Para mantener la ventilación en nuestras instalaciones, el distrito continuará:

• Introduciendo aire fresco del exterior
• Moviendo el aire del interior al exterior
• Limpiando el aire que se recircula en el interior con métodos de filtración efectivos

En los autobuses escolares, abriremos las ventanas para mejorar la ventilación siempre y cuando no represente un peligro.

Lavado de manos

El Distrito Escolar de Corvallis continuará:

• Priorizando el lavado de manos después de que el personal use el baño.
• Priorizando el lavado de manos antes y después de comer.
• Priorizando el lavado de manos después de estornudar y toser

De aquí en adelante

Reconocemos que este es un cambio repentino en la forma en que nuestras escuelas han estado operando, y este cambio se encontrará con diferentes respuestas. Estos últimos dos años han estado llenos de emociones y todos nos hemos visto afectados por esta pandemia de manera diferente. El distrito continuará apoyando las necesidades de nuestras familias, estudiantes y personal durante esta transición. Nuestra primera prioridad sigue siendo garantizar la salud, la seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes y personal.
