When emergencies or crisis situations strike, we naturally want to protect our children. Our district Crisis Response team is made up of school counselors, building administrators, teachers, local ministers and professional counselors ready to step into situations where students may need immediate assistance dealing with a crisis situation.
Events such as stormy weather, minor health emergencies or sudden disruptions to a child’s normal routine are relatively easy to explain and overcome as long as parents can be a comforting presence and assure children that these situations are only temporary.
However, helping children cope with such emergencies as natural disasters, shootings in schools, deaths on the athletic field, a school fire, threats of terrorism or other crises beyond our control can be much harder. If you need help supporting your child, contact the classroom teacher or building principal to get connected to resources.
