Every spring, Corvallis students take the Oregon State Assessments in Language Arts, Math, and Science.
These assessments can serve as tools to benefit students, educators, and our community in many ways, going beyond their function as mere tests.
Results of the Oregon State Assessments:
- Showcase Student Skills: The Oregon State Assessments measure student readiness in Language Arts, Math, and Science which are essential for success.
- Can open College and Career Opportunities: Some colleges and universities use these scores for placement purposes, meaning students can bypass certain courses and save time and money in the future.
- Set Students Up for Success: The results can help students and families understand strengths and identify areas where students can grow, giving a clear roadmap for improvement.
- Help Students to Meet the Seal of Biliteracy Requirements: Students who are working toward their Seal of Biliteracy in high school must have Oregon State Assessment English Language Arts scores that reflect their proficiency in reading and writing in English in order to be recognized as bi-literate by the State of Oregon.
- Keep the state of Oregon competitive for grants: Employers and colleges who seek federal and private grant funding for expanding job sectors use Oregon State Assessment data to reflect that Oregon graduates are prepared for the workforce. When students do not take the test seriously, poor overall state test results can negatively impact future investments in Oregon.
