Changes to District Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Changes to District Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

As part of overall sustainability efforts, the district began investing in electric vehicle charging stations in 2018 as part of our new bond construction projects. Providing electric vehicle charging stations is just one way the district is helping reduce air pollution and the associated health and environmental impacts caused by combustible fuels like gasoline and diesel.

There are stations at Bessie Coleman, Garfield, Lincoln, Cheldelin, Crescent Valley, and Corvallis High School. Once bond projects are completed, these stations will also be at Adams and Mt. View. These charging stations can charge two electric vehicles at once and are available to the community.

While the bond program funded the installation of the charging stations, there are ongoing expenses for licensing, service contracts, and electricity. To cover ongoing costs, the district has set charging rates beginning September 1, 2022, as follows:

  • $0.25/KWh from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday
  • $0.50/KWh at all other times

The district will review these charging rates annually to ensure alignment with other local organizations and that ongoing expenses are recovered.

The district is also transitioning to a ChargePoint model to encourage electric vehicle owners to move their vehicles once charged. Under this model, drivers will be charged $1.00 per hour to leave their vehicle at the charging station once a vehicle is fully charged. This information will display on the ChargePoint system as the vehicle is connected.
